Healio: Preoperative presence of REM sleep behavior disorder in patients with Parkinson’s disease did not correlate with different clinical outcomes 1 year after subthalamic deep brain stimulation.
“Altogether, our results suggest that the presence of probable [REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD)] preoperatively is not associated with different motor, cognitive and global quality of life outcomes 1 year after [subthalamic deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS)],” Elsa Besse-Pinot, MD, faculty of medicine at Université Clermont Auvergne, and colleagues wrote.
“Thus, although the presence of RBD has been previously reported to be associated with a more severe phenotype of PD, it does not seem to constitute a marker of risk of poor outcome after surgery in PD patients eligible to STN-DBS.”
